Bergen Community College Partnership Programs

Early College Program          Grades 11-12

Through a partnership with Bergen Community College, New Milford High School offers high-performing junior and senior students the ability to earn an Associate Degree (60 college credits) while still in high school. The Early College Program is an innovative way for high school students to earn both a high school diploma and a two-year Associate Degree, which can be applied toward a Bachelor’s Degree. Students in this program will receive either a Professional Studies General Education Degree or a Natural Science and Math General Degree.

Interested freshmen and sophomore students are encouraged to meet with their high school counselors to map out their four-year high school course load to ensure all requirements are met to earn both Bergen Community College and New Milford diplomas before graduation.

This program begins in junior year, and students must have earned at least a 3.7 GPA from freshman and sophomore years to participate. Any AP and Dual Enrollment courses offered through New Milford High School can be used as part of the 60 credits needed to complete the BCC Early College Program. Current sophomore students can retroactively apply AP credits toward the Early College Program.

The approximate cost of the program is $8,000 for 60 college credits over two years without taking into account any Dual Enrollment or AP courses. The cost per credit is subject to change. Any tuition costs, fees, and textbook materials will be the responsibility of the parent/guardian. The Board of Education will not assume any responsibility for any fees associated with this program.

There are two applications associated with this program: a Bergen Community College application and a New Milford High School Early College Application.

Prerequisite: Prior approval by the individual School Counselor and Supervisor of Guidance must be obtained before enrolling in this program through the completion of the New Milford High School Early College Application.

Bergen Experience Program          Grades 10-12

The Bergen Experience Program is intended as a mechanism for high school juniors and seniors with an overall grade point average of 3.0 to pursue advanced education at an early stage in their academic life.

Students completing their sophomore year can enroll in a summer session.

Bergen Experience Program Eligibility Requirements:

  • Eligible students will be permitted to take up to six (6) credits during the Fall or Spring semesters and up to eight (8) credits during the Summer sessions.
  • The minimum age requirement is at least 16 years of age. Some restrictions may apply and the student must get permission for each semester as a Bergen Experience student.
  • Students who are not interested in registering for English or MATH courses are not required to take the placement Test.
  • Students who are interested in English and MATH college-level courses must take the ACCUPLACER (basic skills test) unless they have achieved certain scores on the SAT, ACT, or AP examination and have been waived from taking the Accuplacer.
  • For the Basic Skills Placement Test waiver requirements information, visit bergen.edu/testing/basic-skills-placement-test or refer to the Bergen Experience Application.
  • College Experience students will be able to take any course that this college offers as long as they have the required prerequisites.
  • Credits obtained from the Bergen Experience program do not fulfill the requirements to graduate from High School. They are transferable to a two-year community college and four-year colleges and universities.

Any tuition costs, fees, and textbook materials will be the responsibility of the parent/guardian. The Board of Education will not assume any responsibility for any fees associated with this program.

Students are responsible for full tuition payment, which is charged per credit. For example, a student living in the county taking one three-credit class will pay approximately $626.35. This amount covers the tuition only and does not include any additional fees, such as bookstore fees. Bergen Experience students have the option to set up payment plans for their tuition.

Prerequisite: Prior approval by the individual School Counselor and Supervisor of Guidance must be obtained before enrolling in this program through the completion of the New Milford High School Bergen Experience Application.
