Philosophy

The Social Studies Department of New Milford High School works to prepare students to be informed, active and responsible citizens. This can be achieved through an understanding of this nation’s historic roots, an appreciation of the contributions of the world’s cultures to the advancement of civilization, and the development of critical thinking skills to analyze and evaluate the myriad responses to the problems of today and tomorrow.

It is the responsibility of the Social Studies Department of New Milford High School to facilitate the acquisition of diversified skills, concepts, and attitudes enabling each of our students to make a successful beginning in the areas of business, industry, or higher education.

Our program is directed toward the specific needs of the individual, and the methods of instruction are varied and flexible. Yearly revisions will provide for constant growth as reflected by the increasing demands of society on our students.
