Torpie-Sweterlitsch, Jennifer

Dr. Jennifer Torpie is a NMHS Alumna, class of 2006. In high school she discovered her love in STEAM, the combination of science and creative arts. Her extracurriculars included musical theater, choir, and cross country, girl scouting, and working in a local veterinary clinic.

She received her BA in Anthropology from The Ohio State University in 2010 and graduated with her doctorate in environmental anthropology in 2024. Since 2006 Jenn has worked in zoos and conservation and she currently serves as the Vice President of Education and Community Engagement at the Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium.

In this role, she builds local and global education and conservation partnerships that promote environmental stewardship and species conservation for numerous animal species, from waterfowl to red panda, lions to armadillos. When she's not at the Zoo, you can find her baking, sewing cozy quilts, traveling, running very slowly, or spending time with her partner and pets.
